My family and I were in a restaurant a while back watching another family. From the moment they sat down, Mom and Dad were both on their smart phones, not paying any attention to their two kids. Both kids started acting up just to get attention, which stopped as soon as they put their phones down. Of course, being the judgmental person that I happen to be, I said to my wife, “Can you believe that couple not paying any attention to their kids?” Without missing a beat, I picked up my phone to check my email, Facebook, and Twitter. At which point my wife said sarcastically, “No, I can’t, can you? I’m glad none of us do that.” Busted! Set up some phone rules: no phones at dinner, church, family outings, or holiday celebrations.
