Our culture is changing. Rather than people aspiring to achieve the “American dream,” many want the “American handout.” Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m all for helping the needy, but what about those who just keep asking? Are we raising our kids today to think they’re owed everything? Giving is important. Frankly, I struggle. When I see somebody with a sign that says, “Will work for food,” I’m kind of skeptical. But is that affecting our kids? I’m not saying that we should give these people money, but are we compassionate? Do we try to help—investing our time and effort to see that they eat, taking them to a shelter where they can get help, or actually going to those in need and helping by serving? I stand here convicted. You?
