“You’re not the boss of me!” “I can say what I want. It’s a free country.” We’ve heard these words from our kids before, haven’t we? Kids are selfish, and they want their own way. I guess a lot of us adults are like that too. We sometimes question authority or talk poorly about our boss or leaders in the church. As we celebrate Independence Day in the United States, freedom is the common theme. And as Christians, Jesus tells us that we can be free in Him. John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (NIV). It means Jesus Christ paid for our past, present, and future sins—we’re free! No rules, words, or actions are going to save us, just His grace and mercy. Tell your kids about it.
