Sarcasm can be misunderstood.

Are you sarcastic? I can be pretty sarcastic. I find it a little humorous, but, unfortunately, not everybody understands my sarcasm or finds it very funny. I remember a conversation I had on a short-term mission trip with somebody who didn’t like it at all, and she let me know she thought I was pompous and full of myself. I was floored. She later told me that she was wrong and apologized, but it was a wake up call for me. It made me think about my sarcasm at home. Do my kids understand it? Am I being respectful when I’m being sarcastic? Sometimes they think I’m trying to insult or irritate them. Is the place for sarcasm in our homes? Maybe—but don’t make it a habit. Remember, our kids are watching.
