Sometimes we wonder if our kids are getting just a smidgeon of what we’re teaching them about the truth of Scripture. Now, I know my youngest, when she was about six, had done something wrong that was about to require some painful consequences. This instance, I had done it correctly. I kept my cool, and I was about to talk calmly with her about what she’d done. While we both came to the same conclusion about what her discipline was going to be, her eyes got big, her tears temporarily stopped, she looked at me, and said, “Daddy, will you show me mercy ’cuz God showed you mercy?” I couldn’t help but laugh—totally destroying the moment—but God even used that to remind us both about God’s grace and mercy.
