In these difficult economic times, it’s easy to get caught up in constantly thinking about money. Let’s face it. We need money to survive. But are we so focused on money that we’ve lost the blessing of giving? Many people are interested in saving for a rainy day. Or saving enough to ensure a secure retirement. Mom and Dad, let’s not forget about an important part of our Christian faith: giving. Deuteronomy 15:10 tells us to “give generously” (NIV). Proverbs 21:26 says, “the righteous give and don’t hold back” (CSB). Proverbs 28:27 says those who give to the poor “will never want” (NASB). So, one of our goals as parents? To be an example of giving. Encourage our kids to give. They’ll take this example to adulthood.
