“That’s not fair!” If you’re a parent who tries to make everything “fair,” stop. The only thing you’re really teaching them is disappointment because soon enough they’ll find out how “unfair” life really is. How do we teach this, though? When one of our kids earns a reward, don’t buy something for the other kids even though they’re screaming, “That’s not fair.” Or, if a friend invites the other to a birthday party, that doesn’t mean you’ve got to do something special with the others. Point out clearly that life isn’t fair. We have a mother and father—some kids don’t. We have a car—many around the world don’t. Or, our sin requires punishment, but God is gracious and even THAT’S not fair—but an amazing gift.
