As parents, I believe we’re called to be watchmen. Ezekiel 33:7 says, “I have made you a watchman for the people.” In Ezekiel’s time, watchmen warned people of danger, and that’s our role too—especially when our adult kids have rejected Jesus. But how can we sound the alarm without pushing them away? First, speak truth lovingly. Remind them of the gospel, their need of a Savior, including forgiveness of sin, but do it in a way that shows grace, not condemnation. Second, pray. Ask God to soften their hearts and open their eyes to His truth. Ultimately, we can’t force salvation. But as watchmen, we have a responsibility to lovingly point them toward Jesus and trust God will do the rest. Don’t give up—God can still work in their hearts!
