How many times have we said that about somebody? Perhaps your spouse had an affair. Maybe you were the victim of a violent crime. Or, maybe one of your kids got hurt physically or emotionally by somebody. In Matthew 6:15, Jesus is pretty clear when he says, “If you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (ESV). How do we teach this to our kids? I have a dear friend who’s serving a 30-plus prison sentence for a pretty heinous crime. Now, my journey studying forgiveness led me to make the decision to forgive him and to continue being his friend. It wasn’t my strength, though. It was God’s. God’s strength that I hope will teach my kids how Christ forgave us.
