For whatever reason, your son just can’t catch a break. He fails to make the basketball team. He fails his driver’s test because he’s overconfident. He failed to make it into the university of his choice. His girlfriend breaks up with him. Maybe you haven’t experienced that in your family yet, but if you have, you know we hurt for our kids. Sometimes we wish we could just do it for them so they wouldn’t have to hurt. Unfortunately, though, that’s not real life. Sometimes the hurt comes BECAUSE of our poor choices. Sometimes it’s just because God’s trying to do a work in their lives and nobody really knows why. Our job as a parent? Don’t try to fix it. Help them process it by pointing them to Christ.
