When I say Sabbath, you probably think, “I’m glad I don’t have to do that anymore. We live under grace.” Or, “I’m too busy for that.” Pastor Dave DeSelm wonders, why is the fourth commandment the only one we think it’s okay to break? It was a command. Dave says the Sabbath isn’t a reward for finishing the job. It’s a gift of relief from the job. Jesus did. As a parent, model the Sabbath, but don’t make it a legalistic THING to do. Dave suggests stop doing what you ought to do. Sabbath is the one day when the one thing that you MUST do is NOT do the things you must. Do the “get to” things. Don’t do the “have tos.” Plan some “get to” times with the kids. It’ll be fun.
