Pearl Harbor Day. December 7, 1941—the day Japan attacked Hawaii, ushering the United States into World War II. The attack took the lives of 2,403 Americans. I remember asking my grandparents about that day. Neither one of my grandfathers served in World War II, but the fear that gripped them at the time was still visible as they recounted the events and what it meant for their future. While most of us weren’t alive then, we do remember things like the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11, or even the Las Vegas shooting. Fear can control us AND our kids. 365 times the Bible says, “Don’t be afraid.” We need to remind ourselves and the kids in our lives that God IS in control, so we shouldn’t be afraid.
