I valued my time with my grandparents on both sides. We were fortunate; they lived near us all our lives. One of the hardest things in life as a parent is watching our kids and grandkids move away. Our oldest two—one’s in Buffalo and the other’s in Fresno, California. It doesn’t make it easy seeing our kids and, most importantly, our grandkids. How do you have an impact on them when you live so far away? Let me make a few suggestions. One, make regular telephone calls. If your kids and grandkids have smart phones, Skype or Facetime with them. Schedule trips regularly. Make the time you spend together fun. But, don’t forgot the most important thing—talk about your faith. You can pray over meals and remind them of the goodness of God.
