There’s an old country-western song called, “Mama Knows.” The singer tells us how unsuccessful he was, as a kid, trying to hide his secrets from his mother. Mom and Dad, you have “parental radar” to sense what’s going on below the surface. Some are better at it than others. Help it grow. As it does, you'll get better at seeing your kid’s problems just as soon as he or she walks in the room. When you do, address it right away with love, respect, courage, and, hopefully, wisdom. Use your God-given skill of “parental radar.” Trust your instincts. They may push back at first, but they'll love you for it afterward.
