There’s an old country-western song called, “Mama Knows.” The singer tells us how unsuccessful he was, as a kid, trying to hide his secrets from his mom. Mom and Dad, you have “parental radar” to sense what’s going on below the surface. Some are better at it than others. Help it grow. As it does, you'll get better at seeing your kid’s problems just as soon as he or she walks in the room. When you do, address it right away with love, respect, courage, and, hopefully, some wisdom. Use your God-given skill of “parental radar.” Trust your instincts. Your kids may push back at first, but they'll love you for it afterward.
