Can our kids be an idol? Yep. And it can look like good parenting. John Piper calls idolatry the craving, wanting, enjoying, and being satisfied by anything that you treasure more than God. You say, “Well, I don’t do that.” Pastor Scott Foreman who runs TheMinistryDad.com gives us some warning signs. You live vicariously through your kids. You compromise your standards for their comfort. You stop having the tough conversations. You spend excessively on them. You point them towards your desires instead of God’s. You constantly worry about them. You feel an overwhelming sense of abandonment when you think about them leaving. You consistently side with them instead of your spouse. Is this you? Don’t feel condemned. Refocus on the one who deserves our worship, Christ alone.
