Bethany wrote in and asks, “How many extracurricular activities are too many?” That’s a great question, and it’s probably going to be different for every kid. Our rule of thumb? If our kids are stressed out about the schedule and how they’re going to fit everything in, it’s probably too much. I’ve told our daughter that she can do one activity per marking period and no more. So, when it was basketball season, she couldn’t sign up for anything else. No short-term mission trip, ski club, or job during the weekdays. The other rule we have—nothing interferes with church on Sunday. Some of our kids can’t say no. This helps them practice that and manage their time better. So, how many is too many? You’re going to have to decide for yourself.
