Self-control. John Piper calls it the “fierce fruit” of the Spirit1. That description, he says, describes the battle within ourselves—the battle between what our “self” wants and what God wants in our lives. The question is…are we under control as believers in Christ? Luke 9:23 tells us to take up our cross daily and follow Christ. Jesus tells us to “strive to enter through the narrow door” because we’re tempted not to (Luke 13:24, ESV). As moms or dads, our kids want to see consistency. Not only in what we say and do—but also in how we honor Christ through our worship. “Self-control…is a gift.” Pass it on to your kids.
