Recently my youngest daughter lost her mentor. It was quick. She was an integral part of her life. This woman spoke spiritual truth into her life almost daily. She was a dear friend of our family’s. We spent many Sunday nights, birthdays, and other special days together with her and her husband. It was fast. Cancer took her in less than six weeks from the time she was diagnosed. The hard part is helping my teenage daughter understand why God took her. I obviously don’t have any answers. All we can do as parents is to point them to our Creator—His words found in Scripture. Isaiah 57:1 helps some: “The righteous perish…no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil” (NIV).
