As a white man, it’s difficult for me to talk about racism. But as I sit and watch TV or visit communities, it tears me up to see racism in any situation. Worse, it’s difficult watching racism in the church. As parents, we can do a lot to teach our kids to love the diverse peoples that God created. As I’ve traveled the globe the last 20+ years, I’ve come to adore the warmth of the African culture, the hospitality of Middle Easterners, the joy of the Haitians, and the pride of the Jewish people. To think Americans are made of literally ALL of these—a melting pot of cultures. The fact is we’re really one race, pointing us all back to Adam and Eve. What are we teaching our kids?

As a white man, it’s difficult for me to talk about racism?? Are you serious? You contradict yourself- your whole message is to teach our kids we are all one race but you say it’s hard for you to speak about this because you’re white. This comment made me unsubscribe.
Shannon, thanks for writing. You’re right. VERY poor choice of words on my part. What I was trying to say is I haven’t experienced racism, so it was hard for me to talk about it. The only place I felt it a little bit was when I was in Kenya and Ethiopia when I was the only person that looked like me and all the kids were calling me “white person” everywhere I went. I’m sorry you felt you had to unsubscribe. That saddens me, especially since my desire was to help our families deal with racism biblically. If you read this and were offended, please forgive me. God knows my heart. It’s a heart grieving about people attacking others simply because of the color of their skin or where they were born. We’re ALL created in God’s image. What a blessing it is to see followers of Christ from every tribe and tongue worshipping our God who created us all.
Hi Greg,
I over-reacted this morning and did not respond in a Christ-like way. I do forgive you, and hope you will forgive me too. I do understand where you are coming from and because I enjoy Keys for Kids so much (and the parent minute) I was disappointed to see the comment phrased that way— Christian’s have lost our boldness and there’s no reason for you to feel bad about being white. I hope to encourage you to speak about racism boldly and to not be afraid to offend people who have it backwards. Have courage! May all you do bring glory to God!
Sincerely,
Shannon
Thank you for your forgiveness. And, yes, I forgive you.
I do want you to know I don’t feel bad about being white. God made me this way. I embrace it. I’ve just never faced much racism so I can’t speak from experience. But, you’re right, I know what the Bible says about it and that should make me want to speak boldly about it.
I’m so glad you enjoy Keys for Kids. We appreciate you, too. Iron sharpening iron.
Blessings
