When our kids are young, it’s a little easier correcting them: a time out here, a lecture there, a much-needed spanking maybe—these are things that can be formative in a child’s life. But, what do you do when they reach those teenage years and they need discipline? That’s when we turn to reality discipline. While it’s effective, it can create some MAJOR conflict. What do I mean by reality discipline? Well, let’s say your daughter breaks curfew AGAIN. Rather than getting into at the moment they break the rules, wait until they ask to do something. “Sorry, hon, you broke curfew. Maybe you need to take this week and next off to see if we can start trusting you again.” Fireworks? Maybe, but it can be life-changing.
