You’ve probably heard about helicopter parents, right? These are parents of high school or college-age students who seem to hover around being overprotective of their kids. Now there’s a new term for overprotective parents. They’re called LAWNMOWER parents. These are parents who are so overprotective that they mow over obstacles so their kids don’t have to deal with them.1 As a Christian, I can’t help but think how anti-biblical this kind of parenting is. Hebrews 12 says the Lord disciplines the ones He loves. And James 1 tells us that we will suffer and after a while we’ll receive a crown of life. If we protect our kids from trials, how are they going to learn to deal with them emotionally and spiritually?
