As a white male, I want to make sure I celebrate with my brothers and sisters and help the kids in my life celebrate too. Why is it February? Honoring the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln, who freed the slaves, and Fredrick Douglas, an escaped slave who became a civil rights advocate. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their important role in U.S. history. People like: John Mercer Langston, George Washington Carver, Jack Johnson, Hattie McDaniel, Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, are just a few names to look up with the kids in your life. Spend time celebrating these and other men and women that God used to influence the USA. You’ll learn a lot together.
