Idols. We all have them. No, they’re not always statues. They’re anything that replaces our wholehearted need and desire for God. For kids, it can be social media. As parents of tweens or teens, my suggestion — keep them off social media as long as possible. Studies are revealing the negative impact habitual social media usage has on a teen’s brain. Social media can be an idol for us parents, too. I John 5:21 warns us to “keep yourselves from idols.” If they are on social media, help our kids understand our worth isn’t determined by other people but Christ alone because we are His masterpiece, He died for us, and by believing we can have life in His name.
