As parents, we all want our kids to be followers of Christ. We pray, trusting God with His perfect timing in that. In the meantime, teaching our kids about trust and truthfulness can help us point our kids to their need of Jesus. Tell them lying is sin. It separates us from Christ. It has consequences. We all sin. We all need Jesus. Just like that, lying can damage our relationship with each other. Point out how hard it is to believe them, especially when it’s important. Lying will have consequences. Then, read Proverbs 12:22. “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Ultimately remind them that doing good doesn’t save them, but only trusting that Jesus died for their sins and rose again can they be saved.
