Over the last few days we’ve been talking about Dr. Gary Chapman’s book The 5 Love Languages of Children. Today, we’re at the last one. You can discover a child’s love language when you ask them the question: “Do you think your parents love you?” If they say, “Yeah, my mom and dad do all kinds of things for me: take me to volleyball practice, help me with my paper route.” Chapman says acts of service is the fifth love language of children. Chapman says we’ve got to make sure that we’re doing these acts out of love, not contempt. Saying things like, “How are you going to learn to do this yourself if I keep doing it for you?” isn’t going to fly. There are some great suggestions to help your kids feel loved in his book.
