The last thing your adopted child wants to be associated with is a stray dog or cat. As a dad of a “chosen” daughter, I cringe at comments I hear from well meaning friends and family. I read a story recently about someone using the stray dog story as a way to help their daughter understand adoption. That’s NOT a good way to explain it. It’s more like this: God loves us. We didn’t earn it. He chose us. Then, he adopted us as sons and daughters. While we’re nothing like Him, because we love him and want to be like Him, we take on His characteristics and mannerisms that make us look like Him. How many adoptive or chosen kids are just like THIS description? My daughter is. She acts just like me sometimes.
