If you’ve ever had a toddler meltdown in public, you know the urge to go into emergency mode. You want it to stop. God calls us to shepherd our kids, not just manage their behavior. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go…” That word “train” implies teaching, not punishment. So, when your child disobeys you, don’t lose your cool. Don’t discipline or ‘train’ out of anger – but love. Speak clearly and firmly the reason behind your instruction. Consistency is always key. Set clear boundaries and stick with them. Let your child know the “why” behind obedience: it pleases God and keeps them safe. You’re not just shaping behavior—you’re shaping a heart that, by God’s grace, will one day follow Him.
